(COVINGTON, La.) — Thursday, Feb. 25 was a late start for St. Paul’s students, but the faculty arrived early to receive their COVID-19 vaccines now that Gov. John Bel Edwards has expanded eligibility.

The setup for the event was in the new gym. Pharmacists from Braswell Drugs had tables in place for faculty and staff to quickly and smoothly receive the first of two doses of the vaccine. Instructors were back in their classrooms by the 9 a.m. start.

“Honestly, emotionally and physiologically, this is the best I’ve felt in a long time,” said English teacher Victor Morlas. “I was first to get the vaccine. I got there early and waited,” Morlas said.

“The data shows that the first one (vaccine) makes you much safer,” said science teacher David Arbo, “but I won’t do any traveling until I get the second one. I do feel safer though,” Arbo said.

The second vaccine is planned to be issued to the faculty in the coming weeks in similar fashion.

“I think we need it (the vaccine),” Morlas said. “I’m feeling a lot less stressed. I’m still going to be careful, but I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time,” Morlas said.
