The annual tradition associated with Senior Week saw some changes this year due to the addition of new formal uniforms and the absence of the Student Center. The official kick-off to the Class of 2013’s senior year, Senior Week occurred Aug. 20-24 and included the events of the Senior Barbeque, March Thru the Arch, Senior Unity Day, and the Senior Ring Ceremony.
“The Senior Barbeque is a time for the seniors to come together as a group,” says Coach Paul Scoriels, senior level moderator, “It’s a fun night with great food.”
This traditional gathering was held on the evening of Wed., Aug. 22, under the Wolf Dome. The barbeque menu included burgers, chips, drinks, cookies, and brownies.

The annual March Thru the Arch ceremony was held at the beginning of the school day on Thurs., Aug. 23, and included the seniors’ names being called out as they walked through the St. Paul’s Arch. One change this year was that all seniors wore their new formal uniforms for the ceremony.
“I know this is a time where the seniors want to show their individualism, but we have a formal uniform this year,” said Scoriels.
Following the ceremony, the seniors and their parents were invited to a breakfast in the cafeteria. After the breakfast, the seniors then took part in the Senior Unity Day. Scoriels noted that this tradition was started by Bro. Jeffery Calligan, F.S.C., former SPS principal. “The seniors come together and reflect on their four years that they have spent here at St. Paul’s. It is also a time to discuss what they want to accomplish this year as a senior at St. Paul’s,” he added.
That night, the seniors gathered at First Baptist Church to receive their class rings in the annual Senior Ring Ceremony, which was held at the new location this year due to the renovation of the Student Center. Despite the change of venue, the remainder of the ring ceremony traditions remained intact.
The following day, Aug. 24, the seniors had a day off of school for their Senior Ring Holiday. The day is intended for the seniors to rest and get ready for their final year at St. Paul’s.
