Tyrann Mathieu, Chad Johnson Kicked Off Teams

In recent weeks, two well-known athletes got in trouble with their coaches over something that they did off the field, resulting in removal from their teams: Louisiana State University’s starting safety, Tyrann Mathieu and Miami Dolphins wide reciever, Chad Johnson.

According to Yahoo Sports, Mathieu was kicked off LSU’s football team on Aug. 10 for violating a team rule. ESPN later reported that he tested positive for marijuana and failed his drug test. Although currently enrolled at LSU after a stint in rehab, Mathieu’s future on the field is still undetermined.

Additionally, TMZ reports that Miami’s Chad Johnson allegedly head-butted his wife, Evelyn Lozada, during an argument, leaving lacerations on her forehead.

On the official Chad Johnson news website, he released this statement: “I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred. I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death. I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life.”

People throughout the St. Paul’s football community have varied opinions on these two events.

“I think that Chad Johnson made a very bad decision and that he should be punished for it. As for Tyrann Mathieu, I think they should have given him a chance to rehabilitate himself before they just kicked him off the team without getting him any help first,” said senior Patrick Donadieu.

St. Paul’s football player Ryan Malone countered, “I think that Chad will get another chance in the NFL this year. He’s a good guy and a good player, so he should have no problem putting all of this behind him and getting back on his feet.”
