The Graphic Design Club, led by moderator John Carambat, has started up again this year to resume learning about drawing, photo editing, and of course, graphic design. In the past, the club has been responsible for creating the posters for the Marian Players theater productions, as well as any other designs the school or clubs may need.
The club does a large amount of photo editing and digital production using computers, under the leadership of junior Mitch St. Pierre who has been a club member since his eighth grade year. In addition to handling most of the computer production, he also teaches other members how to do all of this on their own. “In our spare time, we would normally just talk and work on sketching just about anything,” St. Pierre said.
Last year, the club designed the posters for the school plays and helped produce images for any other clubs or classes as needed. This year, in addition to those functions, the club will be assembling individual drawings and composing them to make a school calendar. “They will be on sale hopefully around the holidays, so be on the lookout for them,” St. Pierre noted.
The calendar will be sci-fi themed about the “Myths of Saint Paul’s” and will include drawings titled, “It came from the Cafeteria!” by St. Pierre, Cray Pennison’s “Robotics Club Steampunk,” and Dominic Adams’ “Brother Ray: Shapeshifter.”
St. Pierre states that the club is always accepting new members and welcomes any students interested to come to a meeting, which are held every Thursday after school in Carambat’s classroom, room 201 in the main school building. “It’s not if you can draw well or not—it’s if you want to draw,” St. Pierre said.
