New Fly Fishing Club Catches Attention

Club creators Michael Leishman (L) and Sam Moore (R) entice new members at Get Involved Day.

After “Get Involved Day,” held on St. Paul’s School campus on Aug. 22,  the new Fly Fishing Club welcomed it’s first members with open arms.  Sophomores Sam Moore and Michael Leishman are the creators of this new club.

“Michael and I both found we shared an interest in the sport, so we began talking and planning trips for fun.  However, after we realized that just goofing off wasn’t enough, we thought about creating a club, so we pitched the idea to (Trevor) Watkins and set everything up,” said club co-creator Sam Moore.

Moore went on to give explanation to the club’s plans during this developmental phase.  “In the meantime, we are just trying to get as many new people interested as possible.  We’re also planning trips in the local area, and we’ll just gauge how things go from there,” said Moore.

Sophomores Peyton Burkenstock and David Glasgow cast their lines at the first Fly Fishing Club meeting.

The fly fishing club has only had one meeting thus far, under the direction of club moderator Cal Zenor.  The club will primarily be email and Facebook based, so announcements in the school will be very slim.  “It is a low-commitment activity with no real mandatory supplies except school forms,” said Moore.

Any questions a student may have can be directed to Moore and Leishman through the club’s email address, which will be created and announced as the club gets more under way.
