I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. The creativity of the media has gone completely out the window. Over the past few months, movies and television have gone on a noticeably, tragic rinse-and-repeat cycle of distributing storylines to their audiences.
First, I just want to address that I really do not understand how we can be so fresh out of ideas that we have to create movies spawned from fairy tale stories. Come on. There has to be at least one or two genuinely new concepts for a show or movie out there somewhere.
The same goes for television concepts. While I’m not going to be the one to bash the success of “Glee” or “Honey Boo Boo,” I do have a lot of confusion about those two shows being examples of top-rated programs. Again, come on. Are we really that much in the gutter that we’re settling for that? What goes through the minds of show producers, and viewers for that matter, that stuff like “Dance Moms” is considered good TV?
Box Office Heart-Breakers:
Where did we go wrong? Seriously, I’m tired of seeing previews and trailers for movies that I’ve already seen! I don’t need to see “Finding Nemo” or “Monster’s Inc.” in 3D. I don’t need to see remakes of movies like “Red Dawn” or non-required sequels to movies like “Taken 2.”
However, my main two pet peeves with movies today are the fairy tale storylines and the lackluster animated productions. I’m really hoping we can get things somewhere relatively close to the right track soon. In 2012, two live action “Snow White” movies were released. Other recent movies of the sort include: “Red Riding Hood,” two “Hansel and Gretel” flicks, and “Jack the Giant Slayer” (of bean stalk fame).
It’s saddening, really. Perhaps just as bad, are movies like “The Lorax,” “Madagascar 3,” and “Hotel Transylvania.” I’m waiting for the day when film makers are totally honest and release a film entitled, “We Couldn’t Think of Anything Interesting: Here’s An Hour and a Half of Rehashed Stuff; Give Us Twelve Bucks Per Ticket.” But, I guess that is a bit extensive for a movie title.

If you want good, recent movies to watch, I recommend these: “Don Hertzfeldt Volume Two,” “Wreck It Ralph,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” and “Journey 2.” Ok, that last one was a joke.

Highest Rated TV?:
I weep for the American viewers. Please, almighty broadcasting networks, remove two or three or all of the national talent shows from our screens. Perhaps this is just my taste in music interfering with my judgment, but I’m tired of watching boy bands and mediocre solo musicians gain fame because of “American Idol,” “The Voice,” “Project X,” and “America’s Got Talent.”
Next up, I’d like to address a problem that has grown increasingly larger, and it’s depressing me to no end. I speak, of course, about so-called “reality TV.” TruTV and MTV, please just stop. Please.

If you want to make your TV experience as magical as possible, I’d advise you check these shows out: “Game of Thrones,” “House,” “The Office,” or “Portlandia,” but not “The Walking Dead”. That show, to me, is boring. Read the comic; it’s much better.
