St. Paul’s School hosted the annual Christian Brother’s Relay in March in Hunter Stadium, taking first place overall. Team members Marcus Gaines and Zachary Albright presented the trophy to Athletic Director Craig Ketelsen during a recent Principal’s Assembly.
The Christian Brother’s Relay originally began in the 1960s and was an annual event for decades, but had not occurred for many recent years. Last year, the event was brought back by St. Paul’s and has become a huge success. In its second year of resurrection, the Christian Brother’s Relay boasts attendance by six area schools.
This year’s event began with a vigil Mass celebrated by Fr. Matthew Clark. The school’s Liturgical Band provided music for the service with the help of a number of alumni members, including Carter Simoneaux, Andrew Mullet, Pierre Simoneaux, and former faculty member Charlie Legendre. Members from all participating schools attended the Mass, and a number of visiting track members participated in the liturgy as readers.
The St. Paul’s Track and Field Team beat all six other schools, which included Brother Martin, Holy Cross, Archbishop Rummel, Jesuit, St. Stanislaus, and St. Charles Catholic.
