St. Paul’s reinstated its recycling program as of Monday, Oct. 8. The program was discontinued at the beginning of the school year due to lack of a service provider. The only items allowed to be recycled in the campus-wide collection bins include aluminum cans and plastic bottles.
According to Mark Richards, environmental science teacher and head of the school recycling program, PepsiCo Recycle Rally organizers negotiated with Republic Services out of New Orleans to pick up the recyclables generated by the SPS student body.
“They didn’t want to see one of the top contenders drop out of the fight to save the planet,” Richards wrote in a notice to faculty about the program reinstatement.
