Lil Tecca’s new studio album is his best yet.
The much-anticipated project, titled TEC, was released on September 22nd and has earned incredible reviews.
“At just 21 years old, Lil Tecca delivers a masterclass in authenticity with TEC, reaching new heights with his lyrical talents, melodic prowess, and top-tier production,” says a writer on Musicnews.com. TikTokers also sing the album’s praises, including one saying that “Tecca saved summer.”
Before the album’s official release, Tecca put out two singles to build up the hype. 500LBS and HVN On Earth are two phenomenal tracks that have skyrocketed in popularity. Both songs racked up 20 million plays within two weeks of their release.
Aside from the singles, Tecca’s album delivered on every level. He reunited with his long-time partner and Internet Money Records CEO Taz Taylor to create excellent production on the song Gist.
Tecca pleased his fans by experimenting and stepping out of his comfort zone on a few songs, most notably the song Fell In Love (With Ken Carson).
On this track, which feels like a Playboi Carti song, Tecca takes on Carti’s melodic mumble rap style and holds up well. Ken Carson does his part to make this song an all-around enjoyable listen.
Despite being only 21, Tecca brings a mature attitude to many of his songs. On the track Dead Or Alive, Tecca raps about he has done anything necessary to achieve his goals and get to where he is today.
On the song U Don’t Know Tec, the MC speaks out against those who only associate with him because of his popularity. “You can’t ride my wave and then act like you don’t know Tecca” is the final bar of the chorus.
On the other hand, Tecca talks about his day one friend on the song Monday to Sunday. It’s a shout-out to those who supported him from the start of his young career.
The rapper speaks on love and loss on the album as well. Trippin On U and Want It Bad are two heartfelt tracks where Tecca raps about his distant girlfriend and the burdens of having a child. Listeners will be able to tell that Tecca has come a long way since the release of his whimsical, upbeat debut album We Love You Tecca.
Perhaps the most mature song on the album is Real Discussions, where Tecca talks about not giving handouts and planning for the future. He speaks about always having a drive and a purpose, saying, “I can’t stand around nobody that don’t stand for nothin.”
All in all, Tecca came out with a near-perfect album that showcases his production and lyrical abilities. The album projected many different vibes throughout, with each and every one delivering.
“You’re definitely going to feel a various amount of emotions throughout this project. There’s hype songs; there’s cocky songs; there’s flexing; there’s sad; there’s insecure. There are songs where I’m trying to manifest my future,” said Tecca.
