Saint Paul’s students are gifted with many breaks for special occasions of varying importance.
Some are better than others. Below are the Top 5 holidays/breaks at Saint Paul’s, excluding summer break.
5. Labor Day

Although it is only one day, Labor Day is one of the best breaks during the entire school year. Labor Day is ideally situated at the beginning of September, two to three weeks after the school year begins. For many students, by the time Labor Day comes around, the buzz of being back from summer is over, and school is starting to ramp up. In addition, Labor Day is always on a Monday, which means it is a three-day weekend, giving students a final breath of freedom until Thanksgiving break comes in late November.
4. Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is a regionally exclusive holiday the day before the Catholic holiday, Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is a great holiday because it is unique and colorful compared to other holidays. Most other holidays are family-oriented, while Mardi Gras is a lively celebration with festive songs, dazzling floats, and parades.
In addition, Mardi Gras is not only a one-day celebration. Mardi Gras is celebrated just as much, if not more, on the weekend before the Tuesday. This almost week-long string of parades gives parade-goers a prolonged experience.

Moreover, the Mardi Gras break is perfectly timed, ushering in a refreshing week-long break in the heart of the 3rd quarter, which allows students time to regroup and rest after a brutal five weeks of school following Christmas break.
3. Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, which is in late November, is arguably the best holiday for family time. First, for most families, Thanksgiving is the best meal of the year, where dishes like mac and cheese, ham, stuffing, and turkey are enjoyed. Second, Thanksgiving allows us to slow down, pause our lives, and be thankful for everything we have around us with our family and friends. Finally, Thanksgiving is the first extended break of the school year, and by the time it comes, many students are exhausted from the 1st quarter. Therefore, Thanksgiving gives students the break they need.
2. Easter
Easter Holiday, usually celebrated in late March to early April, is the perfect vacation for students, teachers, and parents. Not only is it an entire week off from school, but the weather is often excellent. Whether you are going to the beach, the mountains, or a city, early spring is the perfect time to travel.

In addition, and more importantly, Easter is one of the most important holidays in Christianity because it is a day to remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and, in turn, the salvation of all of humanity. Although Easter is not as widely celebrated as Christmas, it is still significant for many Christians and non-Christians.
- Christmas
Christmas, Celebrated on December 25th, is the perfect holiday because it not only celebrates Jesus’ birthday but also celebrates family. This combination is ideal for everyone because it still gives non-religious individuals a reason to celebrate.

Furthermore, the atmosphere of Christmas time creates an enchanting setting that cheers everyone up. The music, the decorations, the food, and the gifts all help elevate the ambiance, getting everyone in the mood for Christmas day.
In addition, Christmas is an extensive two week break from school, making it a perfect time for a family vacation, and giving students a long break after the conclusion of the 1st semester and midterm exams.
