2023 Fantasy Football Awards

With fantasy football leagues officially over, it is time to give end-of-season rankings to the most deserving players around the league. It is important to note that these awards are based on PPR scoring.

The way these awards will be given is very similar to the NFL Honors awards.

Most Valuable Player

Out of the hundreds of offensive players in the league, one stands alone. This award goes to the overall best player in fantasy football.

This year’s most valuable player is Christian McCaffrey (San Francisco 49ers). He scored the third-highest number of points out of all players, only behind Josh Allen and Ceedee Lamb. However, McCaffrey finished with the highest average of points, which, as a running back, is quite remarkable. He consistently carried fantasy teams to wins every week, and most fantasy football participants with McCaffrey on their team made the playoffs. He was the most rostered player among fantasy championship teams at an astonishing 58.9%.

Quarterback of the Year

The quarterback position is the hardest in all of sports and being the best at it is incredibly impressive. This award goes to the best QB in the league this year.

This season’s quarterback of the year is Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys). Following a year where he led the league in interceptions, he blew away all expectations and put Dallas on the map as a championship-level team. He led the league in touchdowns (36) and was third in passing yards (4,516).

Running Back of the Year

Every running back in every offense is always given opportunities. It’s up to the players to make the most of them. This award goes to the best RB in the league.

This year’s recipient is Christian McCaffrey. As previously stated for the MVP, McCaffrey finished first in highest average points per game. He was the ultimate game-changer, and he refused to be stopped by opposing defenses all season long.

Wide Receiver of the Year

Wide receivers are constantly used as big-play players and yard gainers. Being exceptional at this can make you one of the most valuable players in the league. This award goes to the best WR in the league.

This year’s WROTY is CeeDee Lamb (Dallas Cowboys). Lamb led all receivers in total points and was second in average points. One could make the argument that Tyreek Hill should have this award; unfortunately, Hill did not play the first playoff game and finished the season with a two-game sum of 32.5 points. On the other hand, Lamb was arguably the best player in the playoffs. He had an unbelievable total of 84 points, including a 40-point masterpiece in the championship game.

Tight End of the Year

Tight ends play a vital role in every offense. This award goes to the best TE in the league.

The Tight-End of the Year is Sam LaPorta (Detroit Lions). LaPorta had an incredible rookie year, leading all tight ends in total points. He consistently put up great, wide receiver-like numbers. On top of fantasy points, he led all tight ends in total touchdowns, fourth in receptions, and fifth in yards.

D/ST of the Year

Defense wins championships. This award goes to the best Defense/Special Team in the league.

The D/ST of the Year is the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys were first in total and average points. They scored the highest single-game performance by a D/ST at a mind-blowing 37 points. There is not much else to say other than the Cowboys were lethal on defense for every fantasy team.

Kicker of the Year

Kickers are one of the most critical positions in football. This award goes to the best K in the league.

This year’s recipient of Kicker of the Year is Brandon Aubrey (Dallas Cowboys). As a rookie, Aubrey was by far the best kicker in the league. He led all kickers in total and average fantasy points. On top of that, he led all kickers in field goals and was tied for third in extra points.

Rookie of the Year

Making the switch from college football to the NFL is incredibly difficult. This award goes to the first-year player that dominated the league.

This year’s ROTY is Puka Nacua (Los Angeles Rams). Nacua was drafted in the fifth round, so when he finished the season as the fourth-highest-scoring receiver, everyone was astonished. He was easily the best rookie wide receiver, leading them all in total and average points. He scored a mind-boggling 33 points in week 16, which in most fantasy leagues is the playoff game before the championship.

Comeback Player of the Year

Coming back from a slump year is something everyone pulls for, but only a few achieve. This award goes to the best turnaround player in the league.

DJ Moore

This year’s recipient is DJ Moore (Chicago Bears). Moore was definitely the brightest spot on the pitiful Chicago Bears, and he put up unreal fantasy numbers. His season high in points was one of the highest this whole year. He logged 230 yards and three touchdowns, carrying Chicago to a 20-point- win. By the end of the season, he reached 1,364 yards with nine total touchdowns. In 2022, Moore played for the Carolina Panthers, and he was not nearly as good. He only had 888 yards and seven total touchdowns. Getting traded to the Bears was better for his career. He is exceptionally talented, and it is very likely that with the possibility of playing with Caleb Williams next season, Moore has the potential to be one of the best, if not the best, receivers in the league.

Waiver-Wire Gem of the Year

Sometimes, players blow out all expectations and play phenomenally. This award goes to the top-performing free agent.

Rams reportedly designate RB Kyren Williams for return from IR to play vs. Cardinals - Yahoo Sports

This year’s award winner is Kyren Williams (Los Angeles Rams). One of the weak spots on the Los Angeles Rams offense heading into the season was the lack of talent in the running back position. Fortunately for them, they had drafted a gem in the fifth round the year prior. For fantasy, Williams put up league-winning numbers. He missed five games the whole season, yet he was arguably the most valuable running back in the league. He averaged 21.3 points and had a total of 255. In the post-season, he had a total of 71 points, including a 30-point performance for the championship. He was borderline unstoppable throughout the season and is expected to play even better next year.

Fall-Off Player of the Year

There is always at least one player who has a drop in fantasy performance. Whether that be from bad coaching, bad teammates, or just Father Time, players are always bound to play worse as their careers go on. This year’s FOPOTY is Tony Pollard (Dallas Cowboys).

Where Did Tony Pollard Go To College?

In 2022, Pollard split snaps with Ezekiel Elliott, and fans were mad. In the instances when Pollard touched the ball, everyone would see he was the clear RB1 for the team, but he still split snaps with Elliott. In the off-season, Elliott left in free agency and opened a door for Pollard to be a top RB in the league. To the Cowboy’s unfortunate dismay, Pollard could not live up to the hype. Pollard was the eighth-highest-scoring fantasy back in 2022, with 248.8 total points and an average of 15.6. In 2023, he finished the season as the fourteenth-highest-scoring back, only achieving 222.6 points and averaging 13.1. The final numbers do not fully display how inconsistent Pollard was this season. As the lead back, He scored under ten fantasy points nine times while only scoring over twenty points twice. As a player who was expected to bring teams to the playoffs, he did quite the contrary.

Overall, this season was a roller coaster, with many players moving up and down the fantasy football rankings. While these players were able to shine and win awards this season, expect a group of new players to take their crown next season.
