Disney and Epic Games Merge, Expanding Entertainment Universe

On February 7, Disney announced that it is collaborating with Epic Games to expand the social universe that will bring Disney stories and experiences to life.

This means Disney is now a part-time owner of Fortnite and Epic Games, potentially changing the beloved game as many know it.

Disney invested 1.5 billion into an equity stake alongside Epic Games and the multiyear project.

In addition to being a world-class game experience, this new universe will offer multiple opportunities for users to play, watch, shop, and engage with gaming content.

Furthermore, players can engage with characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar.

Players, gamers, and fans can now dive deeper into a world where they will be able to create their own stories and experiences, express their fan-related ways in a Disney way, and share content in their unique way.

Disney’s new relationship with Epic is transformational and beyond anything ever seen from players, movie creators, and video game creators.

As Chief Executive Officer, Robert A. Iger, from the Walt Disney Company, states, “Our new relationship with Epic Games will bring together Disney’s beloved brands and franchises with the hugely popular Fortnite in a transformational new games and entertainment universe. This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion. We can’t wait for fans to experience the Disney stories and worlds they love in groundbreaking new ways.”

Throughout the legendary game, Fortnite and Disney have had a very deep connection that was never made public till February 7, 2024.

This new connection will strengthen and help the never-before-seen announcement between Disney and Epic Games to create a world full of new experiences for everyone.

Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games, reveals that the two companies are “collaborating on something entirely new to build a persistent, open, and interoperable ecosystem that will bring together the Disney and Fortnite communities.”

Disney and Epic Games have now engaged hundreds of millions of players throughout Fortnite’s content and events, such as in-game season collabs, including the Marvel Nexus War with Galactus, which brought over 15.3 million players.

Everyone has been discussing how this announcement will affect the game and where everything is placed.

Disney World, Sugar Rush, Slaughter Race, and Andy’s Room could all be used as racing tracks for the mode Rocket Racing, making the setting and experiences different and harder to learn, which would make it a challenge for players.

Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater should both be car skins for Rocket Racing making winning a fun reward and experience to unlock or equip these skins.

Let It Go, Circle of Life, Under the Sea, and Beauty and the Beast can all be jam tracks or used as lobby music to sing and vibe along to make the game more catchy and enjoyable for younger ages.

Since Disney decided to add the metaverse players are looking forward to a similar Ready Player One option and mode to play, or even experience a Ready Player One setting.
