The long-awaited Outer Banks season four is out and is causing fans to go crazy. It is one of the top 10 TV shows in the U.S. on Netflix and has gained 15.5 million views already.
Outer Banks officially released the first five episodes of season four on Oct. 10, 2024, and released the other five episodes on Nov. 7, 2024.
The new season shows the “Pogues” returning from their last mission, which was finding El Dorado. Throughout this new season, there are many scenes that have the audience on the edge of their seats while the Pogues carry on their life of recklessness and careless behavior. This season is definitely not the climax of the whole series; however, it’s not a bad season.
Outer Banks has a broad audience that mainly targets younger people bringing a fun summer vibe with a group of young teenage kids living their lives to the fullest.
Based on the ending of season four, Outer Banks will have a season five, which will most likely be their last season, according to the show directors. Outer Banks’ next and possibly final season is estimated to be released in 2026.

The Outer Banks show is a great series overall, with over 15 million viewers, but many viewers were upset with season 3, the previous season. However, most fans loved this new season and felt it was a remarkable comeback from the previous season, though some of the Outer Banks audience thought that the new season was a little unbelievable, with many odd things happening.
For example, it is hard to believe that the Pogues came back from a vast treasure hunt with more than a million dollars, and they spent it all so quickly. It almost seems like the show directors planned to make the Pogues back to being broke so they can go back to their life of treasure hunting. The episode in which they lost a lot of their money seemed forced.
In the new season, the Pogues are looking for a new treasure, which is what they’ve been doing in previous seasons. Like in previous seasons, more antagonists are trying to get the same treasure as the Pogues. The season is still exciting, with many unexpected things as well, but it seems like the directors should change the plot a little.
Saint Paul’s sophomore Julian Ramerez found this season of Outer Banks to be redundant. “Every season kind of repeats itself because it’s like a different person is trying to get the same item, and then they lose it and get it back. It’s kind of predictable now,” Ramirez said.
The show is still very well written within its somewhat predictable plot, having many fun and entertaining scenes; however, at the end of the day, it is unbelievable that a group of young adults can blow through that much money that they spent years and risked their lives trying to acquire. The Pogues also started a business that the people on the cut seemed to love. The Pogues definitely could’ve saved money, especially since they were getting some income as well.
In previous seasons, the Pogues have searched for gold in many places and had success until they lost it. The same thing happens this season when they find the blue crown and get it stolen by the antagonist of this season. The Pogues are at a pace where they have lost treasure once per season, and the trend continues this season.
Saint Paul’s Sophomore Grasyen Waguespack summed it up. “This new season is good, but I think that it has the same exact storyline, and it was a little boring besides the twists that the show directors added,” Waguespack said.
Many people may argue that if the show is repetitive, then why watch it? The answer is that the show is still very exciting, with unexpected twists happening, which keeps the audience interested. For example, in the new season, the viewers were genuinely shocked whenever they found out Sarah Cameron was pregnant.
Furthermore, the audience was very surprised to find out that JJ Maybank, a fan favorite character, was being raised by his nonbiological father and was not born to be a Pogue, as he thought.
Most of Outer Banks’ audience was hoping that the show directors would spice it up, but after the second part of season four, the audience took it all back. Everything changed after part two of season four because the show directors killed off star JJ Maybank (actor Rudy Pankow).
Maybank was many people’s favorite character. He was a funny character who lived his life to the fullest but took chances as a troublemaker. Many teenage boys related to Maybank, but his biological father shockingly killed him.
Fans everywhere made social media posts to express their sadness and anger because of how loved Maybank was, but apparently, there were rumors about a rocky relationship between Maybank and Kiara (played by actress Madison Bailey), Maybank’s girlfriend on the show.
“The new Outer Banks season is good. I’m excited to see what happens next. It had a lot of good action, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I am also very upset because JJ [Maybank] was my favorite character,” Saint Paul’s sophomore Scott Cascio said.
Many critics who said they were annoyed with season three think that this season was a very good rebuttal, and they are excited to see how Outer Banks will end. Critics have also agreed that they are not fans of the new season being released in parts, and they wish it went back to normal so they could watch it all with no breaks.
The new season may be repetitive, but it is still entertaining, and that is why there are so many positive reviews. The show is also very emotional because it shows a strong bond with a group of friends that seems unbreakable.
Many of the critics were very pleased with this season because it picked up where season three left off and got the Pogues back in a tricky situation that was very entertaining. They were also pleased that the first episode showed how the Pogues returned home from finding El Dorado.
Outer Banks would have written a better script for the show, but it must have been hard to find a way for the Pogues to have a fun and entertaining life, so overall, they did a good job with this season.
Now, many fans are wondering how Season 5 will look without JJ Maybank and with a new child arriving for John B and Sarah Cameron.
