Where are they now?

At lot of talk is made about the covenant of Senior Graduation. But little is made of what happens after the diplomas are handed out as the memory of those seniors fade into the next school year. The question remains for many, where are they now?

What do you like most about college?

“For me, the best thing I’ve liked about college was going to somewhere completely new and meeting all new people. It’s also really cool to meet people from all over the country. You meet people that were raised a lot differently than you, and it’s refreshing after coming from the sheltered north shore bubble my whole life.”

What do you dislike most about college?

“The worst part about college is learning to manage your time wisely. It was tough, but I got used to it. Also, it’s been really hard for me to be away from home for so long. I didn’t think I was going to miss it as much but I do.”

Do you miss St. Paul’s, and if you do, why?

“Yes, I do miss saint Paul’s a lot. It was very easy to find out where you belong at St. Paul’s, and it’s been a lot harder to find out where I fit here. I do really miss the close-knit brotherhood, too.”

What advice would you give to the seniors about college?

“That if they have the opportunity to go out of state for school, and they are sure that it’s right for them, then to go for it. There’s a lot more out there than Baton Rouge. Also, learn to lower your standards of comfort real quick.”

What do you like the most about college?

“I like the freedom, being able to choose what you study, and what you do everyday.”

What do you dislike most about college?

“I dislike midterms the most. They’re terrible, especially when they start the third week of school.”

Do you miss St. Paul’s, and if you do, why?

“I miss certain things about SPS: the people, the sense of community, the fun times, but not in a ‘I want to go back’ sort of way, more in the sense that they were great memories that I wouldn’t trade for anything.”

What advice would you give to the seniors about college?

“Only advice would be to choose a college that fits you because not everyone will like the same school. At the same time, don’t stress too much. In the end, you’ll probably love wherever you end up, and the stress isn’t worth it.”

What do you like most about college?

“I mean LSU is pretty much all it’s hyped to be, so that’s awesome. I like the way classes are taught and how you have to be responsible for yourself.”

What do you dislike most about college?

“I really hate the fact that you have to constantly be working if you want to maintain your grades. It’s not forgiving like high school. I coasted through my five years at SPS, and you really can’t do that here.”

Do you miss St. Paul’s, and if you do, why?

“Of course I miss St. Paul’s. It’s an experience like no other, and I sincerely miss the times I had there. St. Paul’s does an exceptional job at preparing students for college. I sit in classes and get bored when they review how to write a research paper because I’ve already done that. Most of all, I miss all my brothers being at one place and on one schedule. It was always nice to look forward to seeing your friends at lunch and just chill.”

What advice would you give to the seniors about college?

“The quality of education that you receive is directly dependent on the quality of student you are. If you have no idea what you want to do, it’s cool, but it helps to come into college motivated that you finally get to pick your curriculum. If you don’t have any study skills now, you need to work on them. I know people that are failing all their classes because they don’t know how to study. You get out what you put into it. Most classes have participation grades, and if they’re small enough, that means you have to contribute to the discussion. Regardless, you have to go to class. No cramming either, stay on top of your work. It’s a job, yo.”

What do you like most about college?

“What I like most about college is that you get to create your own schedule and times that you want to go to class.”

What do you dislike most about college?

“What I dislike about college is that there are a lot more papers, and you have to study more. But, I guess that comes with the territory.”

Do you miss St. Paul’s, and if you do, why?

“I do miss St. Paul’s. I don’t go to school with anyone from St. Paul’s, so I miss my friends a good bit.”

What advice would you give to the seniors about college?

“Balance your time. Study first, and have fun later. You won’t always be drowning in assignments.”
