(COVINGTON, La.) — St. Scholastica Academy’s Benedictine Players will perform “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” on April 23-25 at 7 p.m. and on April 26 at 2 p.m in the St. Scholastica gym, located at 122 S. Massachusetts St. in Covington.
Originally a television production on CBS starring Julie Andrews, the musical will be directed by Patricia Schaff and is a retelling of the classic fairytale of Cinderella. This is not the Disney version, so no talking mice or even “bibbidi bobbidi boo.” It’s still the same story we all know and love; it’s just another adaptation.
“It’s really exciting because it is my first lead role,” said Taylor Sims, who plays Cinderella. “I’m so happy and privileged to work with the people in the cast. It’s awesome to be the lead role in the show and act as a leader to the younger students who are just beginning their journey in theater.”
Along with Sims, the cast features Chris Young as the Prince, Thomas Williamson as the King, Kate Zenor as the Queen, Valerie Schiro as the Godmother, Madi Burke as the Stepmother, Grace Galeziewski and Maddie Schmidt as the stepsisters Portia and Joy respectively, Will McDavid as the Herald, Stefanie Nuccio as the Chef, and Reagan Hightower as the Steward.
Mary Dee Brinkman is choreographer for the musical and dancers include Kaitlyn Cleveland and Kerrigan Jackson. Pamela Legendre, who is the SSA music director, also serves as conductor.
Chorus A Level students who are participating include Emily Blackburn, Beth Cazenavette, Alison Curl, Reagan Hightower, Emma Hladky, Kristen Holmes, Stefanie Nuccio, Hannah Perret, Isabella Pineda and Kennedy Spears.
