(COVINGTON, La.) — When Kanye West recently announced at the VMA awards that he plans to run for president in 2020, it sparked up a lot of talk around campus. Whether or not Kanye actually runs for president is yet to be determined, but that hasn’t kept questions from rising about the future of the United States.
Students from each grade level and a faculty member were asked:
What do you think about Kanye West running for president of the United States in 2020?
“I find it interesting that Kanye West is running for president, and I think he is going to win because a lot of people like him,” pre-Freshman Sebastian Sequeira said.
“I don’t think that it’s a good idea, because Kanye West is a singer, and I don’t think that he would be a good leader for our country,” freshmen Hunter Dupre said.
“Before Kanye West announced his running for president, he explicitly admitted that he was on drugs. He also panders to the lowest class of people by demoralizing women in his music and referring to drugs and alcohol inordinately. If Kanye West tries to enter a presidential race, it will essentially be a media fiasco, somewhat like what we see with Donald Trump,” sophomore Luc Hebert said.
“I lose more faith in America every day because of the dumb presidential candidates. We have some serious ones, and then we have candidates like Kanye West and ‘Deez Nuts’ who pulled 9% of the votes in North Carolina on a fake name,” junior Kyle Hladky said.
“I think that if Kanye West is running for President, this country has officially gone down the toilet,” senior Patrick Early said.
“I think he is trying to be funny, and I do not think he’s serious,” Math teacher Pam Cullen said.
