DOTD Releases Update for Highway 21 Road Work

(COVINGTON, La.) — For several years, commuters, students and travelers alike have dealt with the ongoing road work on Highway 21, which directly affects the traffic flow heading into Covington towards St. Paul’s campus. On Friday (Feb. 3), however, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development released an up-to-date project status, reiterating that completion is close.

As of now, the DOTD reports that crews are stabilizing the deck of the recently erected bridge, finishing catch basins on the east side of Highway 21, pouring side street turnouts and affected driveways, and preparing the road base of the medians and turning lanes.

The paving crew is expected to return within the next couple of weeks to resume paving the streets from the new bridge to 12th Avenue.

As expected, the road widening project will stretch from Bootlegger Road to 11th Avenue, and, depending on weather conditions and the possibility of supplementary work demands, will be completed this spring.
