The recently released show on Netflix, “One Piece,” is a glorious live-action adaptation of the original show and comic, “Manga,” that is widely enjoyed and watched today.
Although the announcement of the live action was in 2017, the filming was delayed due until 2022 due to COVID-19.
The original anime is about a young rubbery pirate captain, Monkey D Luffy, and his adventures in search of the legendary “One Piece.”
Before it was released, fans of the anime were, and still are, extremely excited over the remake of the highly popular Manga and series.
Overseen and directed by the original creator Eiichiro Oda, this remake was expected to be different and better than previous remakes of anime Netflix has made.
Some “One Piece” fans were skeptical of the new series, for other live action anime that Netflix had released did not do so well. Examples include “Cowboy Bebop” and “Death Note.”
According to Tarun Kohli from FandomWire.com, in the first week of the show’s release, “on August 31, 2023, it reached 18.5 million views and reached the top spot on Netflix’s top ten.” In addition, “One Piece” has surpassed Netflix’s “Wednesday” and season four of “Stranger Things” in reaching the top 10 spot by taking only four days to reach the top.
The remake itself contains eight episodes for the first season where they left out many of the minute details from the original 50 episodes but still kept the main body of the original show.
The adaptation does change some of the story, however, like how Luffy met Zorro, and it entirely left out the Usopp Pirates. It also changed the beginning, like how Koby develops as a marine under guidance of Luffy’s grandfather.
Nevertheless, the adaptation still covers and explains the main important parts of the original story and more, which makes it better.
The casting and actors are very good in “One Piece,” and they complement their characters very nicely. Also the CGI makes the devil fruits pop out and look good within the series as well.
According to Austin Goslin from Polygon.com, “Eiichiro Oda confirmed to make a Season 2 of the adaptation on a recent video that he posted.”
We get this information from his social media post, when he talks on a snail phone and says that Netflix wants a season 2 and hints to the next character to be introduced.
Overall, the new series is a great adaptation to the original series that stunned fans and provides hours of entertainment. It’s a must-watch for any fans of anime.

Nice review. Speaking personally One Piece has always intimidated me due to its gargantuan length so I think a good adaptation like this one will be an easy point of entry
