About two months ago, St. Paul’s School introduced a new club to their list of extracurricular activities. The Fly Fishing Club has introduced the students to a new hobby. Meetings, lessons, and trips have already taken place as fly fishers, new and veteran, understand the proper techniques to ensure maximum success.
“We’ve had quite a few productive meetings so far. The guys are learning well, and we hope to continue the fun and experience that comes with the club,” said Fly Fishing Club co-leader Michael Leishman.
The Fly Fishing Wolves have already been on a trip to Folsom according to Leishman and are in the hopes of a trip to Arkansas for an end-of-the-year event.

“Yeah, not everyone shows up to every meeting every time, so we do what we can in terms of numbers. So far, the trips have been a blast, and the guys seemed to enjoy themselves. The Arkansas trip will be our big end-of-the-year thing if we are actually able to get everything situated. So for that, nothing is really written in stone, we’re just going to go moment-to-moment,” said Leishman.
“We’ve already gotten a lot accomplished in the time we’ve had, I’d say. We have gotten a lot of help and endorsements from Orvis and the manager Alex Beane in Baton Rouge, so I’d like to extend a big thank you to them,” continued Leishman.
Orvis is a fly fishing organization in New Orleans and is responsible for having given new equipment and money to the fly fishers this year.
The fly fishing club is moderated by Cal Zenor, and the leaders and instructors of the group are sophomores Sam Moore and Michael Leishman.
Any questions about club can be directed to Sam Moore or Michael Leishman on campus. Students can also email questions at Flyfish3r@yahoo.com.
