UPDATE: March 29, 2018 — The Bowling Wolves lost in the Bi-Regionals in a hard-fought match against Jesuit. The team ended their season with a historic 12-3 record. Individual team members Jonathan Wellmeyer, Peter Bertucci and Joseph Brown will go on to compete in the State Singles tournament on April 6, 2018, a 1 p.m. at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge.

(COVINGTON, La.) The Bowling Wolves took home a Regional round victory on Wednesday, March 21, thus earning a bid in the Bi-Regional round to be played Tuesday, March 27. Even more impressively, the Wolves finished off their regular season with a 10-2 record, the program’s first ever 10 win season.

“To reach a 10-plus win season shows the full commitment of the fine young men we have on our team,” Head Coach Peter Bertucci said. “Success doesn’t happen by accident or entitlement; it is earned, and our guys are proof of that.”

The now 12-2 Wolves took down both Archbishop Hannan and Ponchatoula during their impressive Regional performance. The Wolves dominated Hannan (0-13)  by a score of 26-1, and took down a talented Ponchatoula (10-5) team with a score of 22-5. The performances of Jonathon Wellmeyer and Peter Bertucci gave the Wolves a noticeable advantage over both opponents, along with the performances of Riley Perez, Jack Bertucci, Matthew Aupied and Joseph Brown.

“We’re just really working well together as a team,” senior Riley Perez said, “and we are really enjoying what we do. And that’s what gives us such a drive to do well.”

Bowling is certainly not a sport that gets much attention in the high school athletics roundtable; but the Wolves hope to bring about awareness and popularity within the SPS student body through continued success. Bertucci believes that his team’s dedication and talent can lead them to continued success in the seasons to follow this historic one.

“All you can ask as a coach is that your players are as committed to the team as you are. We have that on our bowling team,” he said.

Bertucci also has the pleasure of having two of his sons on the team, Jack and Peter, who have both greatly contributed to the success of the team.

“Coaching my two boys is something I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. I love my boys,” Bertucci said.

Three members of the Bowling Wolves were recently named to the All-District Team: Jonathan Wellmeyer on 1st Team, and Peter Bertucci and Joseph Brown on 2nd Team.

The Wolves will next compete in the Bi-Regional round next Tuesday (March 27) in Kenner. If successful, the Wolves will advance to the Final Four the following week.
