(NEW ORLEANS, La.) — On Monday, January 28, Pelicans star forward requested to leave New Orleans. News was first leaked by NBA reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday morning. Anthony Davis has given the Pelicans a list of four teams he wants to go to. The trade deadline is February 7th, and the Lakers and Pelicans have been in multiple conversations today about Davis. The Bucks, Clippers, Lakers, and the Knicks are also interested. “I’d take legacy over money”, Davis said. Davis would be on track to have the biggest contract in the history of the NBA. The team that has made the most buzz was the Boston Celtics. The young team in Boston was said to be title contenders and the team to take the Warriors down. “I would never want my son to play for Boston after what they done to Isaiah Thomas. No loyalty. Guy gives his heart and soul and they traded him,” he said. Davis clarified that he doesn’t speak for his son, adding that he’s “Just seen things over the years.” After that was said the talks about Boston went out the window. Los Angeles is the city Davis intends to sign to when he hits free agency, permitting he is not there by the trade deadline.

The Lakers recently offered the Pelicans Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac, and a 2019 first round pick. The Lakers have been projected the 14th pick in the 2019 draft according Sports Illustrated. The 14th pick is projected to be 6’6 forward, Keldon Johnson from Kentucky. There have been other undisclosed offers made today by the Lakers. If the Lakers do not get Davis before the deadline, they plan to pursue him when he hits the market in 2020. The Pelicans are asking for two first round picks in the deal.

The Knicks have an unlikely chance to get Davis after sending Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks. Adrian Wojnarowski said, “New York is unlikely to make a deal for Anthony Davis unless they get the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft.” Zion Williamson is projected to be the number one pick, and has had comparisons to LeBron James. New York will have enough salary cap next year to sign two max deals.
The Clippers are another big market team Davis could go to. The Clippers would throw their two draft picks from last year and the rest is undetermined. The Clippers were in talk to get Kawahi Leonard this past summer. In January Leonard bought a 13.3 million dollar house in Southern California. The Clippers would have to move some pieces to get the duo of Davis and Leonard together.

The Bucks are the most surprising team of the four. With a small market and a top 5 player already, the Bucks would be considered title contenders with Davis. This deal would be hard to workout due to the salary limitations of the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks consider their best player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, untouchable. The trade pieces are currently unknown, but Davis is interested in joining the team with the best record in the NBA.
