St. Paul’s Bowling Wolves Strike School Records and Roll Through District

(COVINGTON, La.) –The St. Paul’s Bowling Wolves have had quite a season. The Wolves are currently 11-0 and have brought home the 2019 District Championship. This is the first district championship in bowling in the entire 108 year existence of St. Paul’s. The bowling program was re-booted four years ago under Coach Peter Bertucci, who has led the team to a record setting year. The Wolves are ranked third in the LHSAA power rankings, which is the highest they have been. The team’s three seniors Peter Bertucci, Jonathan Wellmeyer and Joseph Brown are showing the younger players the ropes of bowling for their upcoming years. Coach Bertucci said the younger bowlers – Kasey Gottschalk, Trystan Melerine, Jacob Bounds, Jack Bertucci, and Zachary Van Zandt – are developing quickly.

St. Paul’s recently matched up against Holden in Hammond on February 20. St. Paul’s defeated Holden 22-5 capturing the first ever District Championship in school history.

Senior Jonathan Wellmeyer lead all scores with a 640 series bowling games of 235,189, and 216. Senior Peter Bertucci also rolled a 615 series with scores of 226, 211, and 178. Other high scores came from Freshman Zachary Van Zandt rolling scores of 191 and 222 and from Freshman Jacob Bounds who rolled a 236 and Senior Joseph Brown 224.

Senior Night is next up for the Wolves as they look to complete an undefeated season on February 27th, at Tangi Lanes in Hammond, LA.
