(AUSTIN, Texas) — The LSU Tigers beat the Texas Longhorns in a compelling 45-38 instant classic on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger started the season with an impressive performance over Louisiana Tech, completing 28 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns.

Joe Burrow, LSU quarterback, had an explosive start to his season as well with 23 completions for 278 yards on 27 attempts and tying a school record with five passing touchdowns against Georgia Southern.

The last time these two football powerhouses met was Jan. 1, 2003 in the Cotton Bowl, where LSU was defeated 35-20.

LSU’s receiving corps made a huge statement when Justin Jefferson racked up nine receptions for 163 yards with three touchdowns, J’Marr Chase had eight receptions for 147 yards, and Terrace Marshall Jr. got six receptions for 123 yards.

This game also marked the first time in LSU history where three different receivers had 100 plus yards receiving. The win over Texas pushed LSU up to No. 4 on the AP Poll, leaving the Longhorns at No. 12. The Tigers aim for another home win against Northwestern State on Saturday.
