After a strong season last year, the Saint Paul golf team is back and ready to make a push toward a District Championship.
Last year current senior Joshua Achord won the individual title, making him the reigning state champion. Even though the season starts this January, the golf team is already preparing by practicing for two hours a day.
“Most guys are constantly working on their games year-round,” Coach Barwick said. “They are very self-motivated.”
With the upcoming season comes new challenges. Knowing the Golf Wolves lost Riley Hnatyshyn, Gil Ward, and Kason Shaw, all graduating seniors from last year, they still expect to be a contender in the district. Coach Barwick mentioned, “We have a great team this year, and I expect we will be a contender in the District, Regional, and State Tournaments this spring.”
The season consists of seven regular matches. District, Regional, and State follow up the season.
The team was able to win state during the 2021 season, along with winning the 2013 District, Regional, and State titles. In total, there are four state title wins.
Coached by Coach Barwick, the Golfing Wolves are preparing for the season ahead. Even though they lost great players, they still have very talented players.
