(COVINGTON, La.) — The St. Paul’s Wolves and the Edna Karr Cougars will face off in the regular season opener for both teams on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in Hunter Stadium.

The teams have split their last two meetings. In 2013, the Cougars defeated the Wolves handily, 34-12, but last year the Wolves defeated the Cougars 26-25 thanks to a 9-yard touchdown pass from Kenny Sears to Matt Meyers that gave the Wolves the lead as time expired.

The Wolves fell to Archbishop Rummel in the Christian Brothers Jamboree last weekend. After a scoreless first half, the Wolves took a 7-0 on the first play of the second half via a 78-yard touchdown run by running back Corey Williamson.

However, Rummel answered the following drive to tie the game at 7 and scored two more touchdowns to take a 20-7 lead that they would not relinquish.

The Wolves finished the 2014 regular season with a 7-3 record before falling 43-42 in overtime at Evangel in the first round of the Division I playoffs.

The Cougars used a strong second half to defeat St. Augustine 26-7 in their jamboree game last weekend. The Cougars and Purple Knights were tied at 7 at the end of the first half, but the Cougars exploded for 26 unanswered points in the second half.

The Cougars were led offensively by quarterback Aldon Clark, who passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third.

Last year, the Cougars advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs before falling to Neville.

The sponsors for Friday’s game are Rainbow Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Rainbow Northshore GMC Buick.
