Class of 2016 Graduates With Distinction

(COVINGTON, La.) — Saturday, May 14, 2016, saw the commencement exercises of the St. Paul’s School Class of 2016 carried out in the Briggs Assembly Center on campus. The class is the school’s 105th graduating class and sets itself apart in excellence based on its achievements.

Members of the Class of 2016 have been accepted into 90 colleges and universities and have earned over $15 million in scholarships. Luke Avenel, Jacob Broussard, Patrick Connolly, John Cresson, Ethan Desforges, Ryan Meraux, Andrew Mercante, and Harrison Preto were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Patrick Connolly and Ryan Meraux were awarded scholarships from the National Merit Corporation.  In total, 34 seniors were named to All State Academic Sports Teams by the state of Louisiana. Jack Cheng has received an appointment to West Point.

Spencer Albright, Michael Boudreaux, Oliver Guice, Nick Isolani, Johnny King, Hunter Romero, Colin Ross, Lucas Schmidt, Kenny Sears, Kurt Shiell, Austin Wiles and Bradley Yeager will attend colleges and universities on scholarships that will allow them to continue their athletic careers in sports that include baseball, football, soccer, tennis and track.

The 2016 class of St. Paul’s was recognized by Louisiana State University and granted the Spring Testing Invitational Golden Achievement Award, bestowed on only 20 high schools in the state for their spring testing results, due to 16 seniors who accumulated over 132 hours of credit in English, Math, Physics and Spanish, earning over $190,000 in tuition credit.

Luke Avenel, Jacob Broussard, Jack Cheng, Patrick Connolly, Ryan Meraux, and Leland van Deventer were the valedictorians of the class, and Ethan Desforges and John Cresson were the salutatorians. Covington Mayor Mike Cooper of the Class of 1971 presented the recognitions of the valedictorians and salutatorians.

Bro. Jerry Vincent, FSC, presented the Provincial’s Award, the highest award presented by the Christian Brothers, to Austin Grashoff. Bro. John Fairfax, FSC, presented the Bro. Cassian Lange Scholarship to John Cresson.

President Bro. Ray Bulliard, FSC, presented diplomas at the graduation mass celebrated by Reverend Matthew Clark, OSB. Principal Trevor Watkins served as Master of Ceremonies, while Assistant Principal, Joe Dickens, and Senior Counselor, Renee Miller, assisted with awards and diploma presentations. Bro. Ken Boesch, FSC served as the organist. The Mothers’ Club of St. Paul’s sponsored an outdoor reception on campus following the ceremony for the Class of 2016 and their guests.
