With tryouts last week, Saint Paul’s soccer is in full swing. Our soccer program at Saint Paul’s has a history of being one of the most competitive, athletic, and prestigious programs in all of the south and even the nation, led by head coach Sean Moser. With seven state championships under his belt at Saint Paul’s, Moser plans to start the season strong and win another state title. He has led the soccer program here at Saint Paul’s since 2009 and has certainly made quite an impressive legacy that we will remember for many years to come.
On November 6th, the Wolves took on the Catholic Bears in an intense scrimmage in Hunter Stadium. Although the Bears had won, the Wolves did not let their winning spirit diminish, and they are ready to play the Bears again and win! “I’ve always liked Pat Riley’s (NBA Hall of Fame player, coach, and admin) quote when he was a young coach… ‘you play every pre-season and reg season game to make the finals'”. I thought we played well in the catholic scrimmage, out shooting them seven to 2. And everyone on the bench got some time. I was pleased with our effort.”
When asked about the team’s chemistry, Mr. Moser said, “The team chemistry is a work in progress and has not begun to blossom- as of last night’s play, and result at St Thomas More can attest to. There are only two returning starters and a small senior class. It might take a while, but unfortunately, in the next two weeks, we play 3 of the top 7 ranked Div I teams.” Although the chemistry is a work in progress, Mr. Moser believes that the team will grow and develop together throughout the season.
The players and coaches have worked very hard to maintain their reputation and continue to do so. We all look forward to supporting the soccer wolves as they progress through their season and hope to support them again this year in another state championship game.
