(COVINGTON, La.) — The St. Paul’s Wolves football team suffered a heartbreaking quarterfinal loss by the hands of John Curtis last season. The Wolves open up with a scrimmage against the same team that eliminated their 2017-2018 playoff run. Both teams are bringing back many bodies on both sides of the ball which calls for a very anticipated and exciting scrimmage to start off both teams’ seasons.

The prestigious John Curtis Football Program seems to never have to rebuild and is always locked and loaded for the next season. The Patriots are a run dominant team, averaging 273 rushing yards per game last season. The Patriots have returning three offensive lineman, Robert Pizzolato (OT 6’4, 305), Rudolph Bolds (OT 6’0, 290), and Preston Guedy (OG). They also are returning quarterback Collin Guggenheim who had an outstanding sophomore season. Collin threw for 1035 yards and rushed for 967 yards racking up twenty five total touchdowns on the season. The defensive side of the ball for the Patriots is bringing back some very valuable assets. Returning at Cornerback is a three star recruit, committed to Southern Methodist University, Donald Clay (5’11, 175). The Patriots are also bringing back Colby Orgeron (DT, DE 6’5, 235) who just recently committed to Tulane for Football.

The St. Paul’s Wolves football team is poised and ready to grow to be a strong team overall. The Wolves averaged 237 passing yards last season, along with 135 rushing yards per game. With four starters returning on the offensive line, the Wolves are ready to become a strong running team this year. Bear Palazzo (RT 6’2, 270), Owen Hnatyshyn (LT 6’4, 290), Matthew Algero (OG 6’0, 300) and Jared Kreeger (C 6’4, 295). Jeb Juge (OG 6’4, 295) is a new face to the offensive line who will be starting this year. Jack Mashburn ( QB 6’4, 208) also returns to lead the St. Paul’s offense for his final season. However, Mashburn suffered a high ankle sprain and is unfortunately out for the scrimmage against John Curtis. Junior Caleb Frost (QB 5’10, 165) will take over the reins of the St. Pauls offense. Seniors Nick Stanton (WR 6’5, 200) and Will Robinson (WR 6’1, 160) come back from an amazing junior season to give St. Paul’s a strong receiving core. Newcomer Carter Elie (RB 5’10, 180) did really well during Spring Football and poses a rushing threat to any defense that comes his way. The Wolves have six returning starters on defense. Seniors Michael Phillippe (MLB 6’1, 215), Robert Buquoi (FS 6’3, 196), Spencer Fox (DE 6’3, 205), Jordan Eberts (NT 6’0, 205) give their defense a decent amount of experience and skill from last season. Junior returning starters are Wayne Galloway (LB/DB 6’1, 215) and Michael Crockett (DE 6’0, 200).

The scrimmage will be this Wednesday at Hunter Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Come out and take a look at this years’ Wolves!
